How Sunlight Effects The Pineal Gland

Since publishing the article, One Simple Step You Can Take to Activate Your Pineal Gland, thousands from all over the world have arrived at this website, seeking information the pineal gland and ways we can support it’s functioning through nutrition. I am both humbled and wholeheartedly eager to share more. One thing is absolutely clear, there is a universal yearning for more information to support conscious awakening, and at the forefront is a hunger for resources regarding this tiny miraculous gland we call the third eye.

In the last article I outlined the importance of eating fat-soluble sources of vitamin K2 to decalcify the soft tissues in the body.  K2 can be found in grass-fed dairy, butter, meats and pastured eggs. Sorry vegetarians and vegans, unless you like fermented soybeans, you’ll need to start incorporating some butter into your diet to compensate the deficiency of K2.  K2 cannot be properly synthesized in the gut by eating k1 from green leafy veggies.  There’s no way around it, it comes from animal fats.  I was a vegan for 12 years and a vegetarian for 20.  Now I eat pastured dairy and use grass fed butter and I raise my own chickens.

It’s winter here in Maine.  The days are short and accompanied by long and dark nights.  Cold temperatures keep many Mainers inside during the season.  The lack of adequate sunlight and outdoor exposure can leave anyone feeling the ‘winter blues’ and some even suffer from SAD depression, (seasonal affective disorder). SAD is reported by approximately 10 to 20 percent of people with depression and 15 to 22 percent of those with bipolar disorder. While many people understand that the lack of sunlight can have a drastic impact on our mood, most do not understand that the pineal gland is really responsible for our well-being as well as our spiritual sight.

The energy from the sun feeds our pineal gland.  The inside of the tiny pinecone shaped gland is lined with photoreceptor cells, similar to those that are found in the retina. These cells are called pinealocytes and they are hard-wired to the visual cortex of the brain.  The primary role of these photoreceptors is to synchronize the autonomic functions, like our circadian rhythm, and the creation of neurotransmitters like melatonin and serotonin, to light in our environment. Light is absolutely imperative to the generation of these two neurotransmitters. Photoreceptor cells are also located in the retina, and when triggered by sunlight they also produce serotonin in tandem with the pineal gland.

Scientists believe that some environmental light can pass through the skull to reach the pineal gland, but most of the stimulation occurs through the pathways between the eyes and nervous system.  The reactivity of the pineal gland is also influenced by geomagnetic activity, when plasma from the sun’s solar wind sneaks in through the earth’s magnetic poles.  These geomagnetic events cause the pineal gland to vibrate and produce more serotonin and melatonin.

In the long, dark of the winter, it’s important to find opportunities to bath in the light.  Find moments to be outside and turn your face to the sun.  Drink in the light of a window.  If you have shades or curtains in your home, open them each morning to let in the light.  If you usually wear sunglasses, I challenge you to go without, even when driving.  Find a winter activity you can easily participate in, it can be as simple as going for a walk.

Even in the darkness, may you find the solace of light.

Tap Into Your Insight Anywhere, Even In The Shower

Do you get strokes of insight while in the shower? I definitely do. I'm not sure if it's because it's one of the only places I can tune out for a few moments in private, but my shower is full of insight.

Often my mind is flooded with information, concepts and words I need to further research. This morning was no different. I was given the word "Na-cosh".

Now this could have been coincidence, since the first Facebook post I saw this morning was my friend's joke about snakes. I tend to believe coincidence is just a reinforcement of spiritual synchronicity.

So a little goggling this morning led me to discover "Na-Cosh" actually spelled Nacacsh, is the Hebrew word for serpent and also means Bright light.

I looked further, because often words have deeper origins, as is the case with Nacacsh. It looks and sounds a lot like "Nechash" which means bronze and copper. The Hebrew word is from the Aramaic word Nechushah for copper and bronze.

I find this particular interesting given the electrical conductive properties of copper and the energy associated with the "serpent"

Remember the copper serpent rod Moses held up in the desert to heal the children of Israel?  It was called the Nehushtan and I believe it was a metaphor for moving reiki energy up the spine to heal.

We can actively choose to be more of a heart brained person. Our hearts generate a measurable magnetic field that extends six feet beyond the boundaries of our bodies, communicating emotional feelings, thoughts and memory. The brain is not the only organ responsible for our consciousness, the heart is paramount and vital to our connection and humanity.

My husband went out for his morning walk witth our dog. While he was gone, my daughter hugged me and said "Mommy, I want a feather." I turned to her and said " Alright, let me show you how prayer works". I took her hands, we closed our eyes and said " Angels, please show us a sign of your presence please leave a feather for Aurora."

About five minutes later Todd returned from walking our dog, holding a huge white feather. He said on this day he decided to walk in a different direction, to go a different path, and that's when he saw the feather on the ground.

Sometimes you need to walk a different path to answer the call of spirit.

 

This world may seem filled with chaos and darkness, but the light is eternal and everpresent and angels are with you.

Combined with the constant dehydration, wrinkles tend to become very pronounced in heavy drinkers, specifically between the eyebrows, an area on the face that Chinese medicine links to the liver. Alcohol dilates blood vessels and eventually causes capillaries to burst on the face and eyes. The cute blushing you may have experienced in your twenties can turn into a permanent red completion later in life, especially if you have fair skin.

Alcohol can also trigger rosacea and cause a permanent disfiguring of the facial tissues, especially on and around the nose ( think W.C. Fields). Why I Chose to Have a Home Water Birth in Maine.

 

I was born three months too early. My mother’s body was shutting down, so an emergency caesarian was planned in a frantic effort to save her life.  Weighing in at a little over two pounds, I was dubbed Miss Preemie Universe.  I was rushed to the NICU where I remained for four months, while my mother laid in a pitch black room with toxemia and renal failure. 

 

Years later she would tell me, she felt so much grief around her birth experience and so much grief as a new mother of a severely premature child. “ what did I do wrong, she thought?” She wanted the chubby Gerber baby, the healthy baby that nursed and slept with pink rosy cheeks. 

Both my mother I did not have the birthing experience that she was hoping for. While her talented medical team was able to save both of our lives, my mother felt grief and anger.  She never got to experience the third trimester of either of her pregnancies.  I can’t image the fear she must have felt being told she was dying and the doctors needed to remove me from her womb to save her life. Not only faced with her own mortality, she was forced to confront the fear of losing her child as well, a fear no mother should ever have to face.  While most mothers long to hold their newborns close, to nurse and comfort, and coddle, my mother just felt overwhelming grief and anger.  Instead of bonding, we both fought frantically to live.

Every mother is deserving of a peaceful, uncomplicated and comfortable birth, one that is supportive and celebrated.    Every child deserves to be brought into the world in a gentle manner, free of trauma.  I While this isn’t always the case, especially in the United States, I believe it’s an ideal that most women hold close as they approach their due date.

No one wishes for complications, unplanned interventions, trauma, and infant mortality, but the reality is that these are a very real possibility for women giving birth in the United States. According to theCenters for Disease Control, the United States has a higher infant mortality rate than any of the other 27 wealthy countries. A baby born in the U.S. is nearly three times as likely to die during her first year of life as one born in Finland or Japan.

When I became pregnant with my daughter, I knew I wanted a very different birth story then the one my mother and I shared.  I was haunted by the fear that, I too, would have a premature child or develop life-threatening toxemia.  Despite my fears, I felt an undeniable yearning to reclaim the birth experience that my mother did not have.  For me the choice was crystal clear—if all went well, I would opt to have water birth, in the comfort of my own home and entrust my prenatal and postnatal care to a talented and caring midwife.

A woman’s birth plan and choice of care givers is a deeply personal one.  I did not arrive at the decision to home birth lightly, but felt after much research and spiritual investigation, it would be the best possible choice for myself and my child. I am fortunate to live in Maine, were home birth is legal and midwifes are plentiful.   I was even surprised to find that my insurance company covered my care and birth with my midwife.

Not only did I have a healthy, robust pregnancy, I carried my daughter full-term. She was actually a day late and weighed in at 8.9 pounds and was 22 inches long!  My labor was very quick. I pushed for 10 minutes and delivered my daughter in the water.  It was absolutely perfect.  She never left my chest after being born, and never left my side for the next few days.  My home birth was everything I had hoped it would be.  I felt safe, supported and in control the entire time.  Surrendering to the process and pain and moving beyond my fear has changed me for life.

One Super Simple Step You Can Take To Activate Your Pineal Gland: It's Not What You Might Think!

Between the eyebrows, in the center of the brain is a pea sized endocrine gland that is responsible for spiritual sight and elevated mood.  Known commonly as the third eye, or the seat of the soul, the pineal gland plays an important role in our understanding and comprehension of the cosmic world around us.  When functioning at optimal health, it is also responsible for the production of serotonin derivative melatonin, which helps us sleep, dream, and follow consistent circadian cycles, we wake with the sun, we sleep in night. It also makes DMT, the Spirit Molecule, that is excreted during REM state of dreaming, meditation, during birth and at the end of life.

This tiny pine cone shaped gland nestles in-between the two hemispheres of the brain and even has photosensitive cells much like the retina in our eyes.  Years of drinking fluoridated water, homogenized milk with added vitamin D, a low fat diet, sugar and refined carbohydrates and GMO processed foods can wreak havoc on the tissues of the body, disrupting the delicate balance of minerals needed to maintain health.

 The result is too much calcium in our blood, which, when unbalanced, can accumulate in our soft tissues.  The pineal gland calcifies; our bones and teeth weaken, our arteries become coated with calcified plaque, our blood pressure rises, we can’t sleep at night, and we are depressed, eventually, if we don’t develop heart disease or stroke, we get Alzheimer’s or dementia, all caused by an imbalances in our modern diet and a lack of vitamin K2.  

If you have never heard of K2 and its critical role in your health and wellbeing, you aren’t alone.  Vitamin K2 has been virtually eliminated from our modern American diet, a tragic and arguably deliberate way to obliterate our spiritual awareness, make us chronically sick, depressed, and dependent on a healthcare system that continues to fail us.

Within the last 150 years the industrialization of agriculture has transformed our modern diet and substantially impacted our health.  I am part of the generation that saw the mass fluoridation of public water and grew up eating genetically modified foods.  I got my first cavity a year after the fluoride was added to our water supply. 

To better understand why K2 disappeared from our modern diet, you need to understand where this valuable little powerhouse of a vitamin comes from. Unlike vitamin K1 that is found in leafy green plants, vitamin K2 comes from milk, egg yolks, meat and cheese from the animals allowed to graze on tall, fast growing, and green pasture. Cows and chickens eating a diet rich in green grass produce K2 in their milk fat and egg yolks. K2 is also found shellfish, organ meats, and fermented foods. 

Visit any modern industrialized farm these days, and you will not find cows on pasture or chickens off roaming the land. You’ll see animals in stalls, without sunlight, being feed GMO corn and grain, or worse, animal byproducts.  Lush green grass was removed from the industrial livestock diet, and thus, K2 was removed from ours. It may take a little more work to locate quality sources of K2, but it is possible and you won’t break the bank in the process.  An organic label alone is not assurance of being pasture fed.  Go to your local farmers market, coop, or natural grocer and ask. Look for pasture feed labels, like “raised on green grass” “from animals allowed to eat grass” “finished on grass”.  Kerry Irish Gold butter is a grass fed butter and available in all super markets.   

By adding a high-quality grass fed butter to your diet, and eating it liberally, you add an array of amazing fat soluble vitamins. pasture and cultured pasture butter contains Medium chain fatty acids , vitamins, conjugated linoleic acid, and balanced omega-3 and omega-6 fats.

 

 Vitamin K Conundrum

While humans can eat a lot of leafy green veggies to get K1, we cannot convert enough K1 into K2 to reverse calcification. Vitamin K2, also called menaquinone, is made by the happy bacteria that line your GI tract. K2 goes straight to your blood vessel walls, bones, and tissues.  Vitamin K2, is found in fermented foods and in animal sources, sorry Vegans (I was one for many years) is more important than calcium for bone heath.  It can also reverse tissue calcification.  It maintains proper calcium levels by attracting calcium molecules and helping them bind to proteins so the calcium can be used by the body.

Unbalanced calcium will accumulate in soft tissues.  Basically, K2 moves appropriates calcium throughout the body and places is where it can be readily utilized.  Without enough vitamin K2, osteoporosis could occur.   This same property also makes vitamin K2 useful for preventing cardiovascular disease and reversing calcification: the vitamin will attract calcium which has hardened in the pineal gland, arteries, tissues and cause it to break down.

When New Doors Open

Are you experiencing a tremendous amount of upheaval or shifting in your life? Are new doors opening for you? Often when we experience a sudden and unanticipated life change, we feel overwhelmed by grief, anger, confusion and even resentment.
